The following information is about AO William F. McGuffin. William was onboard the USS Liscome Bay CV56. When on 24 Nov 1943 the USS Liscome was torpedoed by a Japanese submarine I-175 (HIJMS Sansuikan). The USS Liscome was sunk 20 S.W. of Butaritari Atoll and Mankin Island Over 650 Officers and enlisted men lost. William was among the dead. It is said the USS Liscome went down in less than 20 minutes. The Japanese submarine Identified as the HIJMS Sansuikan was given credit for sinking the USS Liscome and was later sank by the USS Fair DE-35 near Kwajalein Island. AO2 Robert H. Holloway - E5 - Navy - Regular, Length of service 4 years, Casualty was on Feb 20, 1966, In OFFSHORE, SOUTH VIETNAM, NON-HOSTILE, SEA CASUALTY, DROWNED, SUFFOCATED, he was from Indiana, or Illinois. Had wife, two kids. We believed he was blown overboard by jet exhaust while heaving 20 mm ammo from catwalk up to the flight deck during night ops. No one saw him go overboard, discovered missing next morning. Body was not recovered, Panel 13E - Line 48 - Contributed by Duncan Adams in July 2010
